As you enter the foyer of the grand hall, the only ornament or furniture of any kind is a pedestal in the center of the room, in the center of an elaborate labyrinth engraved in the marble floor. As you approach the pedestal, you notice a book lies there, open. The open page reads as follows: "It was fortune that brought Thomaso and Kull together so many years ago; or perhaps it was more than fortune. The pattern has been known to weave men into its designs, bringing together in times of great necessity those who would stand against the onslaught of the shadow. The meeting of these two men was the beginning of something great, something known from that moment forward as The Swordbrothers." At the urging of his brothers, Thomaso inked to vellum his meeting with Kull, so that it may be preserved in the annals of our history. The only complete copy rests on the shelves of the library at Kore Springs. We share this excerpt below with you, to help explain what it means to be a Swordbrother. "The middle aged warrior stood up and looked around him. He felt the breeze of the wind on his face and felt pleased. He had always enjoyed Amadicia and it's fine city of Amador. The Children of the Light were harsh rulers, he admitted that, but they kept Darkfriends and other spawn from their lands, what sadly could not be said of other countries in these times. The stories about Dragon Reborns, vile beasts of the Night and the whispered words that mentionned even the existence of the eyeless one's grew in strenght and kept the entire Light obeying world in fear. He did not fear these rumours here, in the woods of Amadicia, the woods he loved. He had always admired the flourishing wildlife that inhabited these lands, many times he had been astonished by the beauty of old huge trees and the variety of fauna present. It had been a good choice, he reminisced, to move from the north to here. It was now already twenty years ago that he had decided to go south from Baerlon to visit Deven Ride, where he had relatives. Unaware of the danger of such a voyage and ignorant of the precise route to follow, he soon had lost his way and was terribly deviated from his original travel scheme. It was in the woods of Amador that he had met the man that would change his life. As he was sleeping near a village cemetary, bruised from attacks of wild animals and with agony in his heart from the experiences he had surpassed, this man woke him up and helped him. Still this day he blessed the good faith that had brought this young ranger, named Kull, to that exact place. He would become his first swordbrother over the years, and one of the leaders of the Brotherhood that would form itself slowly through friendship, assistance and honour. Kull took him to Amador, and there it was that they would spend the most of their life up to now. The toughts of the warrior were sudenly disrupted as a young bear of a man entered the room, sheathing a great claymore in a jewel encrusted scabbard. As he removed his visored helm, Traemarr smiled at his brother who sat at the table. The warrior smiled back at him. How many adventures throughout the world had he already had with his brothers, he thought. Too many to tell. A grin appeared on his face. The past flashed in his mind. He remembered the times that he was learning the art of fighting and more important, the days that he had formed his skills. That hadn't been easy, but he had learned it the good way. He felt proud that he had spent many years of his education in the presence of great men. This had formed his character and abilities. He was, still today, thankfull towards these people. Now he might be equal in age and maybe in the skill of the noble absorption-like fight, he might be surrounded by brothers that he tried to lead in the path of the Light, but in comparison to them he still felt as a student and a child. Once again his memories were disturbed as Traemarr coughed.'Thom', he said, 'I have a problem.' His mind flashed again. Those had been the exact words that he had used that long time ago when Kull had found him. He stared at the sky. Kull al'Memnoch. They would travel a lot together after his wounds had been treated by the Child of Light medical Legionaire, and they had soon realised that they shared many things. It is not often that two men find themselves so similar in conceptions, thoughts and convictions. They both had strong moral values, and wished to help other people as in their youth so many had helped them. They felt companionship and friendship were the key words to stop the Shadow from spreading and they decided to stick together. Honour and assistance were engraved in both their souls and were one of the most important things in their life. They experienced in mostly unwanted encounters with the Shadow that their strengths continuously grew, and from that moment on they were in the front line of defending the southlands, from Baerlon to Amador, when rumours appeared that evil beings roamed the lands. They were resting in Baerlon one day after such a fight with the Dark when they decided to form a Brotherhood. This Brotherhood would incorporate the same values they had, and what they felt were the foundations of a good society. They welcomed over the years many new brothers, every man or woman that was attracted by the strong friendship and moral values that characterised this group. The Swordbrothers, was and is their name. We ride together to help." -From "The Life of Thomaso, Swordbrother", They would become the first Swordbrothers, and the leaders of the Brotherhood that would form itself over many years through friendship, assistance and honour. To this day, the Swordbrothers continue to grow. Do you have what it takes? |
